Preparation: Ensure your vehicle is securely jacked up and supported on jack stands. Remove the rear wheel to access the brake assembly.
Disassembly: Disconnect the brake line from the old wheel cylinder. Use a brake line wrench to avoid damaging the line. Remove the retaining clips or bolts securing the cylinder to the brake backing plate.
Removal: Carefully pull the old wheel cylinder out of the brake assembly. Inspect the brake shoes and hardware for wear or damage.
Installation: Insert the new wheel cylinder into place, ensuring it aligns correctly with the brake shoes and backing plate. Secure it with the retaining clips or bolts.
Reconnection: Attach the brake line to the new wheel cylinder, using a new copper washer or sealing compound to prevent leaks. Tighten the connection securely.
Bleeding: Bleed the brake system to remove any air pockets. This involves opening the bleeder valve on the brake caliper or wheel cylinder and pumping the brake pedal until clear, steady fluid flows.
Final Check: Reinstall the rear wheel, lower the vehicle, and check for leaks. Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure proper operation.
