Installing a new inner rear hub oil seal is essential for preventing oil leaks and maintaining the health of your vehicle's rear axle assembly. Here's a detailed guide to help you with the installation:
Preparation: Jack up your vehicle and securely support it on jack stands. Remove the rear wheel to access the hub assembly.
Disassembly: Detach the brake caliper and hanging hardware to gain access to the hub. Remove the hub nut and pull the hub assembly off the axle.
Removal of Old Seal: Carefully prize the old oil seal out of its groove using a seal picker or similar tool. Clean the groove thoroughly to ensure a proper fit for the new seal.
Installation of New Seal: Apply a thin layer of grease to the lip of the new oil seal. Position it in the groove and tap it in place with a suitable tool, ensuring it seats evenly and fully.
Reassembly: Reinstall the hub assembly onto the axle, tighten the hub nut to the manufacturer's specified torque, and reconnect the brake caliper and hanging hardware.
Final Check: Reinstall the rear wheel, lower the vehicle, and perform a visual inspection to ensure all components are securely installed. Check for leaks and test drive the vehicle to verify proper function.
